Yale U16 hockey team excels on the road

The under-16 hockey team from Yale Secondary tightened its grip on second place in the Elite 15's division.

The under-16 hockey team from Yale Secondary tightened its grip on second place in the Elite 15's division of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League during a busy stretch of eight games in 10 days.

The Lions went 2-2 at a showcase tournament in Banff, Alta. the weekend of Nov. 8-10, highlighted by a 1-0 overtime victory over Kelowna's Pursuit of Excellence with Brandon Kruger supplying stellar goaltending and Kyle Davis scoring the OT winner. Yale also notched an 8-0 win over Idaho's Compete Hockey Academy, while suffering losses to Edge School of Calgary and Burnaby Winter Club.

The following weekend in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, the Lions posted a 3-1 record. After opening with a 3-2 loss to Edge, they bounced back with wins over Banff, Pursuit of Excellence and Okanagan Hockey Academy.

The Lions (10-3-1) host an exhibition game against the Pacific Sea Devils at Abbotsford Recreation Centre on Friday, Nov. 29 at 10:15 a.m. Fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items and help support the local food bank and the Salvation Army.
