The Yale Secondary AAA senior girls rugby team defends its provincial title on Saturday (June 3) in Abbotsford.
The championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Abbotsford Exhibition Park as part of the BC School Sports rugby provincial championship, which got underway on Wednesday.
Yale will face either Cowichan or Gleneage in the championship match. Those two teams face each other at 6:30 p.m. Friday (June 2).
The Yale Lions senior girls won the first-ever provincial rugby title for the school in 2022, defeating Carson Graham 45-12, and were ranked first heading into this week’s tournament.
Heading into the finals, Yale was victorious against Mt. Boucherie 77-7 on Wednesday and then 49-10 against Lake City in the semifinals.

Yale’s AAA senior boys, ranked fifth heading into the provincials, started off with a 48-0 loss to Oak Bay on Wednesday, followed by a 20-15 defeat to Mt. Boucherie on Friday in the consolation round.
The team plays for seven/eighth place Saturday at 5 p.m. against Claremont.
The AAA boys team from Abbotsford Senior lost 10-4 to Mountain Secondary in the Tier 2 semifinals and now plays for third/fourth Saturday at 3 p.m. They will face either Kelowna or Kitsilano.
Meanwhile, in AA action, the fourth-ranked Bateman Secondary senior boys edged past fifth-ranked Brentwood 35-31 on Wednesday, but then lost 39-7 Collingwood in the semifinals on Thursday.
Bateman plays for third/fourth spot at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Abbotsford Senior AA girls won their first game 50-0 against LV Rogers, but were defeated 77-0 against Shawnigan Lake on Thursday in the semifinal match.
The squad plays for third/fourth spot at 11 a.m. Saturday against Mark R. Isfeld.
And the junior boys team from Bateman goes up against Kelowna at 5 p.m. Friday for fifth/sixth place in their division.
