Sarah Wierks, who played a big role in the UFV women’s basketball team’s turnaround season, was named to the 2011 CIS All-Canadian All-Rookie team.

The first-year forward from Chilliwack Secondary is the first UFV women’s basketball player to be honored with an All-Canadian award in the five-year association UFV has had with the CIS.

Wierks averaged 10.3 points per game while scoring 277 points. She also pulled down a total of 237 rebounds for an average of 8.8 boards per game.

UFV improved from 2-16 the previous year to 12-12, which was good for seventh place in Canada West and a post-season berth.
