Abbotsford swept the PACWest athlete of the week awards, as a pair of local volleyballers were honoured by the B.C. college circuit.

Columbia Bible College setter Jason Warkentin was named male athlete of the week, while UFV’s Krista Hogewoning won the female award. Warkentin, a second-team league all-star last season, has established himself as one of the premier players at his position in the league. He helped the No. 5-ranked Bearcats improve to 7-1 on the season with a pair of weekend wins over Camosun.

Hogewoning, a rookie left side, led the Cascades to an upset win over the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, the Vancouver Island University Mariners, last Friday. She racked up 16 kills, one block and three aces in the victory.
