Volleyballer Marshall makes the cut for Summer Universiade

Steven Marshall of Abbotsford has been selected to the final Canadian men’s volleyball roster for the 2013 Summer Universiade in Russia.

Steven Marshall of Abbotsford has been selected to the final Canadian men’s volleyball roster for the 2013 Summer Universiade.

Following the first selection camp in early May in Gatineau, Que., Marshall was named to the initial 18-player roster. Last week he made the final 12-man squad which will travel to Kazan, Russia.

Marshall, a left side out of Mennonite Educational Institute, helped the Trinity Western Spartans win the 2012 CIS championship. He was a second team Canada West all-star in 2012-13.

Canada has won a pair of men’s volleyball medals at the Universiade – silver in 1983, and another silver in 2007. The Canadian squad will face the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Chile and the Czech Republic in Group D at the 2013 Games.
