Abbotsford's Jake Virtanen and his Calgary Hitmen have advanced to Round 3 of the Western Hockey League Playoffs with a 4-3 overtime victory over Medicine Hat on Friday.

Virtanen, the first round pick of the Vancouver  Canucks in 2014 and a member of the gold medal-winning Canada squad at the world juniors, scored four goals in the series.

In the first-round series against the Kootenay Ice, Virtanen didn't find the back of the net but he did manage seven helpers.

Prior to Sunday's NHL playoff game between the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks, Virtanen and fellow Canucks prospect Mackenzie Stewart watched the team's morning skate from the stands alongside president Trevor Linden, scout Stan Smyl and others.

The Hitmen will now take on the Brandon Wheat Kings in Round 3.
