For the second year in a row, Kayla Bruce has been named the PacWest's most outstanding female volleyball player.
The fifth-year middle led the conference in total offence (4.56 points per set) and blocks (0.79) and was third in kills (3.26) during the 2012-13 regular season. She also won the league's MVP award in 2011-12.
"I could not be happier for her," Cascades coach Dennis Bokenfohr said of Bruce. "In a year where there were a lot of deserving athletes it is very flattering for the conference to vote her as the recipient.
"This is everything to do with her compete level. Many athletes have moments of greatness. It is Kayla's consistency that separates her from the rest."
The Cascades, the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, racked up several other PacWest honours. Setter Kira Tome was named rookie of the year, and she joined teammate Julianna Penner on the all-rookie team. Kate Bilodeau, Krista Hogewoning and Brittany Stewart were named second-team all-stars, while Bruce was a first-teamer.
• The UFV men's team saw two players recognized in the year-end awards. Adam Chaplin was a second team all-star, while Kurtis Stromdahl made the all-rookie team.
• The Columbia Bible College women's volleyballers put two players – outside hitter Sadie Ball and middle April van Wieren – on the PacWest first all-star team, while Maria Cupido earned all-rookie honours.
• The CBC men had standout setter Emmanuel Denguessi picked for the second all-star team.
