Harnek Toor and Paramjit Gill compete in track-and-field events in Quebec

Two Abbotsford athletes brought home eight gold medals and three silvers at a recent sports event in Laval, Que.

Paramjit Gill and Harnek Toor were among those competing Aug. 2 to 4 at the Canadian Masters Outdoor Championship at the Claude Farragne Stadium.

More than 350 athletes competed from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States in a variety of track-and-field events.

“Masters” are defined as men and women ages 35 and older.

Gill competed in the 65- to 69-year age group, winning the gold medal in hammer throw, weight throw, shot put and the throws pentathlon, and a silver in the discus throw.

Toor competed in the 75- to 79-year age group, clinching golds in hammer throw, javelin throw, weight throw and the throws pentathlon, and silvers in the discus throw and shot put.

The throws pentathlon tests athletes in five events – hammer, shot put, discus, javelin and weight throw.
