Twisters tremendous at home gymnastics meet

Athletes from Abbotsford’s Twisters Gymnastics excelled at their annual invitational home meet last week.

On the men’s side, Twisters welcomed Team Canada and Team Australia to the meet, while Halifax native Ellie Black, a Canadian Olympian in 2012, competed at the national high performance level.

All told, Twisters athletes combined for an eye-popping 95 medals, including 17 of the all-around variety.

All-around medalists on the men’s side included Curtis Olivier (gold, national open), Brogan Neufeld (gold, Level 3), Robert Watson (silver, national senior), Wyatt Lavers (silver, Level 4), Kyle Machibroda Ames (bronze, national open) and Ethan Ikeda (bronze, Level 2), while former Olympian Ken Ikeda notched a gold medal on the pommel horse in the national senior division.

Women’s all-around medalists included Andry Friesen (gold, national open), Tamara Skulstad (gold, Level 5 tyro), Zoe Rumsby (gold, Level 3 argo), Lucie Romeo (gold, Kip 2), Brienna Gaspar (silver, Level 4 tyro), Katelyn Cotterell (silver, Level 3 novice), Paula Melger-Iida (silver, Level 2 novice), Kaia Rumsby (silver, Kip 2), Justine Robinson (bronze, Level 5 open), Marissa Engh (bronze, Level 3 argo) and Samantha Reitsema (bronze, Kip 2).
