Twisters athletes shine at Western Canadian Championships

Several local athletes earn medals

Twisters gymnastics shined at the Western Canadian Championships.

Twisters athletes brought home an impressive haul of medals from the Western Canadian Championships.

The event, which ran April 27 to 30 in Brandon, Man., saw Twisters send five women and eight men to the event as part of Team BC and bring home 20 individual and six team medals.

The Twisters gymnastics team is made up of competitors from Mission and Abbotsford.

The following female athletes took home medals:

JO 10 (16 +)

• Team – Silver

JO 9 (11-13)

• Team – Silver

• Marissa Engh – silver on Beam

• Jordis Kliewer –gold on floor

• Mikhayla Rosenow – gold on vault

Male athletes who won medals included:

Elite 3

• Team – Bronze

Elite 4

• Team – Gold

• Michael Frew – silver vault

• Ethan Ikeda – bronze all-around and bronze horizontal bar

Level 4

• Team – Silver

• Logan Isfeld – silver all-around, bronze pommels, gold rings and gold parallel bars

• Jeremy Filiatrault – bronze all-around, bronze floor, bronze parallel bars and gold horizontal bar

Level 5

• Team – Bronze

National Open

• Cohen Kiers – silver all-around, gold pommels, gold rings, bronze vault and gold parallel bars

• Dawson Friesen – silver pommels and silver parallel bars

The next competition for Twisters athletes is the Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Montreal from May 23 to 28.
