Twisters aim for Olympics

Pair of Twisters Gymnastics athletes heading to Olympics test event

A pair of Abbotsford’s Twisters Gymnastics athletes will battle for an Olympics spot in April.

Abbotsford’s Ken Ikeda and Chilliwack’s Zachary Clay competed on Team Canada at the 2015 Gymnastics World Championships in Glasgow, which ended on Nov. 1.

Ikeda, Clay and Team Canada finished 15th at the event, earning 339.781 points. The top eight countries at the event received anautomatic berth into the Olympics, while countries ranked ninth to 16th battle for the final four spots at an Olympics test event in Brazilthis April.

Both Ikeda and Clay are expected to make the trip with the team and represent Canada at the event.

The next big event for local gymnasts is the North Shore Invitational at Flicka Gymnastics in North Vancouver, which occurs from Dec. 11to 15.
