Three Abbotsford prospects ranked by NHL Central Scouting

A trio of Abbotsford hockey prospects earned a mention in the NHL Central Scouting midterm rankings released on Wednesday.

Devon Toews and Dalton Sward were both listed among the top North American skaters. Toews, a puck-moving defenceman ranked No. 181, has posted 18 points in 34 games with the junior A Surrey Eagles this season. Last fall, he landed an NCAA Div. 1 scholarship from Quinnipiac University.

Sward, a gritty forward who plays for the WHL's Vancouver Giants, is ranked No. 188 after registering 19 points in 42 games.

Mackenzie Skapski, a goalie with the Kootenay Ice, is rated 14th among North American netminders. He's posted a 6-3-1 record with a 3.10 goals-against average and a .889 save percentage, serving as the backup to fellow Abbotsford native Nathan Lieuwen.

The 2012 NHL draft runs June 22-23 in Pittsburgh.
