Take dad fishing at the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery

Organizers are expecting up to 2,000 people to attend a fishing event at the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery on Saturday.

Organizers are expecting up to 2,000 people to attend a fishing event at the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery on Saturday.

The Family Fishing Weekend event offers tours of the hatchery operation, fishing in the ponds, face painting for kids, and snacks like ice cream and hot dogs.

There is fishing gear on hand for those who don’t have their own, and participants are allowed to keep their catch.

The event goes from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the hatchery is located at 34345 Vye Rd.

The event is in keeping with the Freshwater Fisheries Society’s goal to get more families hooked on the sport of fishing, by offering a free weekend of fishing.

Fishermen can attend organized events such as the one at the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery, or create their own outing over the Father’s Day weekend. The DFO is also offering free saltwater fishing over the weekend and as with the provincial program, certain regulations apply. For details, visit gofishbc.com or pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca.
