Abbotsford's Sophie Schmidt has been named the female player of the month by the Canadian Soccer Association.

The 23-year-old midfielder scored one goal and added two assists in five international matches for Canada during the month of March. The eighth-year member of the national team also extended her streak of consecutive appearances to 35, which ranks sixth-best in team history.

Schmidt has represented Canada at the 2008 Summer Olympics, two FIFA Women's World Cups, three CONCACAF championships (one gold and two silver), and one Pan American Games (gold). She's poised to participate in the London Olympics this summer.

RUGBY CLUB HOSTS ALUMNI

The Abbotsford Rugby Football Club will host its alumni night on April 14 at the ARFC Clubhouse at 6:30 p.m.

Former players Rob Phillips, Matt Kehler and Jennifer Germaine will be inducted into the ARFC Hall of Fame, while Brett Morgan will become a lifetime member for outstanding service to the club. Tickets are $20 and can be purchase by contacting doug_primrose@sd34.bc.ca.

JUNIOR CASCADES READY FOR TIP-OFF

The Junior Cascades developmental girls basketball program is set to launch for the year.
