Peninsula Runners Abbotsford is sponsoring a series of local events over the next three months.

On Sunday, March 4, the West Abbotsford Community School Society hosts the second annual West Abbotsford Run for Success. The event begins at 10 a.m. at Rotary Stadium.

On Sunday, April 1, the Mission Hillstompers are running their Heritage to Hatzic 5km/10km event. Start time for both distances is 9 a.m. at Heritage Park Secondary in Mission.

That same day, Peninsula Runners and Go Fusion Fitness are partnering on the Total Makeover 4.4 km race at Mill Lake in Abbotsford. Start time has yet to be determined. For more information, visit peninsularunners.com.

CASCADES HAND OUT WEEKLY AWARDS

Basketball players Spencer Evans and Alexa McCarthy and volleyballer Kayla Bruce have been named the University of the Fraser Valley's athletes of the week.

Evans, a rookie swingman, made a pivotal contribution off the bench for the Cascades men's hoops squad, posting seven points, three rebounds and a blocked shot in an 89-70 win over Trinity Western last Thursday.

McCarthy and Bruce were co-winners of the women's athlete of the week. McCarthy scored 12 points off the bench in UFV's 74-65 triumph over Trinity, while Bruce led her team to a pair of five-set road wins over the Camosun Chargers. She leads the PacWest conference in total offence (4.21 points per set) and aces (0.85 average).
