The defending B.C. champs dropped a 63-61 decision to Kelowna Christian in the bronze medal game, despite 15 points from Viv Veerman.

CASCADES HONOUR WIERKS

Sarah Wierks has been named the University of the Fraser Valley's athlete of the week.

The rookie centre from Chilliwack posted 12 points and 10 rebounds in the Cascades' 78-69 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues in the CIS East Regional semifinal last Friday. The game marked the Cascades' first appearance at the regionals. The Abbotsford Heat sponsor the UFV athlete of the week award.

BASEBALL REGISTRATION

As of March 21, the Kids Interchurch Baseball League is accepting registrations for its summer season.

The league emphasizes community spirit and good sportsmanship, and games run on Thursday evenings between May 5 and June 23. Boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 12 are welcome to attend, and the cost is $25 per player and includes awards, team photos, ball caps and a family barbecue. Organizers are also seeking parent volunteers to help out.

LADIES GOLF NIGHT

Fraserglen Tuesday Morning Ladies Golf Club pre-registration is Tuesday Mar. 29 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Fraserglen Bar & Grill (36036 South Parallel Rd., Abbotsford).

TIME FOR TENNIS

Local tennis players are invited to participate in singles and doubles tennis leagues, which begin play in April.

The leagues offer an opportunity to play the sport at one's own skill level. Players or teams will play a minimum of six matches on local courts.

IDENTIFICATION CAMP AT UFV

The University of the Fraser Valley men's basketball team is hosting an identification camp on Saturday, April 23.

Athletes will be put through drills by the UFV coaching staff, and participate in an officiated scrimmage. In addition to the Cascades coaching staff, multiple BCCAA men's basketball coaches will be present as well.

Cost is $25 per athlete, and only those serious about competing at a post secondary level should attend. Players are asked to bring a reversible jersey, or a light and a dark T-shirt.
