In a game to decide first place in the AA Eastern Conference, the Abbotsford Senior Panthers blanked the Robert Bateman Timberwolves 34-0 in Grade 10 football action last week.
Grayson Marquardt tossed three touchdown passes to Jordan Goheen, Chase Claypool and Madaraka Kuol on his way to 196 passing yards. Claypool also ran for a major, while Kuol scored on an 11-yard fumble return. Thomas Sharp Madigan hauled in a pair of sepctacular catches, and the defence was sharp with Alex Pongracz contributing two sacks and Cody Andres notching five tackles.
HALL CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS
The Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame is soliciting nominations for its class of 2013.
The deadline for submissions is Nov. 15. Nomination criteria and forms are available at www.abbysportshalloffame.ca, or by contacting the Sports Hall of Fame Society at Box 10, Abbotsford B.C., V2T 6Z4. In addition, nomination forms for the Wall of Fame (a one-year recognition of an individual or team performance in 2012) are available on the website.
The Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame, located on the main floor of the Legacy Sport Centre at Exhibition Park, contains memorabilia displays honouring athletes, teams and builders who have been inducted since 2003.
RAVENS HANG ON TO BEAT BULLDOGS
The Eugene Reimer Ravens Grade 8 football team edged the Howe Bulldogs 24-22 on Monday.
The Ravens took a 24-6 lead early in the third quarter, but had to fend off a determined rally from the Bulldogs. Bobby Narang rushed for 130 yards and two TDs for Reimer, while Shawn Lal also found the end zone and Balraj Mangat scored three two-point converts. Bobby Narang was in on 23 tackles to set a school record.
HARLEMS CROWNS TO PLAY AT MEI
MEI Secondary is hosting the always entertaining Harlem Crowns basketball team on Monday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
The Crowns will be playing against a team of current and former MEI senior boys basketball team members. Tickets are available at the school office for $9 in advance and $10 at the door, and kids under 6 are free.
