The third annual Western Canadian Flag Football Championship is set to hit the fields at Exhibition Park, July 14-15.

The third annual Western Canadian Flag Football Championship is set to hit the fields at Exhibition Park, July 14-15.

The event has attracted a field of 12 teams from B.C. and Washington state, including the defending champion Duncan Dawgs and a local entry from the Fraser Valley Touch Football League.

The event also features a fastest man competition, and the WCFFC Hall of Fame party, which runs Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m. at Finnegan’s Pub. Tickets for the party are $15 prior to July 10 and $20 thereafter, and can be purchased by contacting Scott Beadell at scott@wcffc.com.

TENNIS ACES EXCEL AT GREAT WEST

A youth tennis tournament held last month at Great West Fitness featured a series of outstanding performances.

Jerry Huang knocked off Kiran Phaterpekar in the boys 14 singles final, while Jared Maclean beat Andy Sun in the boys 12 category. On the girls side, Alli Valk rallied to beat Angie Walker in the 14 division, while the 12 singles champ was Michelle Lim, who defeated Alex Walker in the final. Ricky Tran won the boys 10 title, beating Ricky Tran for the gold.

Doubles winners were Jack Karp and Sam Gouneil (boys 14); Andres Barrero/Stefan Mitrovic (boys 12); and Alex Walker and Andreea Craciun (girls 12).

BASKETBALL CAMP READY FOR TIP-OFF

Athletes in Action is hosting a basketball camp in Abbotsford this month.

The event runs July 9-13 at Abbotsford Christian Assembly. Athletes age 5-8 hit the court from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by an afternoon session for ages 9-11 from 1-4 p.m. To register, visit athletesinaction.com.
