Sports in brief: Evans honoured by PacWest

Jenna Evans of the UFV women's volleyball team has been named the PacWest conference's female athlete of the week.

Jenna Evans of the University of the Fraser Valley women's volleyball team has been named the PacWest conference's female athlete of the week.

Evans, a 5'7" outside hitter, led the Cascades to a sweep of the Douglas Royals last weekend. In Saturday's four-set win, she racked up 24 total points of offence.

“Watching Jenna play it seems everyone roots for her," said UFV coach Dennis Bokenfohr.

"She is definitely one of the shorter powers in the league, but her jump is one of the best and her constant aggression is what she is being known for."

Basketball players Jasper Moedt and Tessa Klassen were named UFV's athletes of the week. Moedt helped the UFV men's hoopsters to a 74-65 win over the Calgary Dinos on Friday, posting seven points, six rebounds, one assist and a steal. He scored 20 points and hauled down a team-high six rebounds in a loss to the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Saturday.

Klassen, a fifth-year point guard, racked up 50 points on the weekend – 26 vs. Calgary, and 24 vs. Winnipeg.
