Solid weekend for Cascades soccer squads

The women blanked Manitoba 2-0 on Friday, and won 3-0 over Winnipeg on Saturday.

In the win over the Winnipeg Wesmen, Kara Delwo and Paige Friesen, both of Abbotsford, scored. Maple Ridge’s Carly Neeson also tallied her fourth goal of the year.

Neeson also scored against Manitoba, and Danika Snook of Chilliwack split the Bison defence and buried her chance. The Cascades displayed a great offensive performance, outshooting Manitoba 18 to 5.

The men battled the No.1-CIS-ranked University of Alberta to a 1-1 stalemate on a goal in the final minute of Saturday’s game. They also tied the Saskatchewan Huskies 2-2 on Friday at Exhibition Field in Chilliwack.

In both games, Mark Village of Abbotsford was outstanding in the Cascades net. Craig Robinson and Dalibor Plavsic scored against Saskatchewan, and Plavsic also got the tying goal on Saturday.

The women improved to 5-1-1 win the victories, and they are unbeaten in four straight conference games. The men are 1-2-3.
