The Abbotsford 96'ers bantam C girls fastpitch team brought home the silver medal from the provincial championship tournament in Port Alberni last week.

The Abby squad was dominant in the round robin, winning all four games, including three via the mercy rule. They went on to win all three playoff games en route to the final, where they met the host Alberni Valley Blazers.

The 96'ers had beaten the Blazers 8-7 earlier in the tourney, and in the gold medal game, they built a 4-3 leading heading to the seventh inning. But Port Alberni made the most of their last at-bat, scoring four runs, and Abbotsford's comeback in the bottom of the inning fell short.

Settling for silver took none of the shine off a terrific season for the 96'ers – they lost just one regular season game, and won three gold medals and one silver in tourney play.

"It was a pretty awesome year for the girls," assistant coach Spencer Tucker noted. "One of the things were really strong in this year was base-running. It was a part of the game that won us a lot of games."
