Seniors secure the gold

The 10-member Titanium Senior C Women’s team competing in the dragon boat race event at the BC Seniors Games last week where they claimed top honours. They now look to the 2016 championships in Adelaide.

The Titanium Senior C Women dragon boat squad picked up gold at the BC Seniors Games last Friday, Aug. 28.

The team, which consists of six women from Abbotsford, will be competing in the World Club Crew Championships in Adelaide, Australia in Spring 2016.

The Abbotsford team members are Karen Baillie, Kathy Heidebrecht, Helen Leusink, Ingrid Rennie, Connie Thompson and Anne Vander Laan.

Just Baillie and Leusink competed in last week’s Games.

The Titanium Seniors previously won bronze at the Canadian Dragon Boat Championships in Welland, Ontario held in late June. In the spring, they secured silver at the Pre Al-Can Regatta and gold at the Rio Tinto-Al Can Regatta that was held in False Creek, Vancouver.

In 2014 the team, which trains out of Fort Langley, competed in the World Club Crew Championships in Ravenna, Italy.

The 55+ BC Games is an annual multi-sporting event produced by the BC Seniors Games Society.
