Sophie Schmidt and the Canadian women's national soccer team take on South Korea in a friendly next week in Edmonton.

Sophie Schmidt of Abbotsford has been named to the Canadian senior women’s soccer team’s roster for an international friendly vs. South Korea in Edmonton next Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Schmidt, a 25-year-old midfielder, is one of 13 players on the roster who were part of Canada’s bronze medal-winning side at the 2012 London Olympics. The game will be televised nationally on Sportsnet One at 6 p.m. Pacific time.

Canada has a 3-1 all-time record vs. South Korea, but lost their last meeting, falling 3-1 at the Yongchuan Cup International Women’s Football Tournament in January.

“South Korea will be a tough test for us,” head coach John Herdman said. “Our 1:3 loss to them in January this year and their recent win over Japan has shown we will need to be on our game to get a result while still developing our new playing models.”
