The Abbotsford Curling Club hosted its annual mixed spiel Feb. 21-23 and, being ever aware of current events, adopted an Olympic theme.

This is not to suggest that the quality of the curling rivalled Jennifer Jones or Brad Jacobs, but reportedly the exuberance was comparable.

Team Jamaica won A event, due no doubt to their bobsled ice-reading experience. The inimitable Team Beerinstein led by Linda Wishoff and her able vice-skip Rex, defeated Team Fell in the B event. Event C2 was won by Señor Trask who beat Dewirth of France like a cheap piñata.

Finally, C1 saw Aussie Bonneau leap over Team Hambland. Hambland was ably represented by the prolific Hambly family led by great grandpa Reg (age 86), grandpa Jim (only slightly younger), granddaughter Kristal (in her prime) and great granddaughter Mikeala (age 15). Proving once again that curling is a great sport for all ages, fielding a four-generational team is a unique accomplishment. The Hambly family are to be congratulated.

The Abbotsford ladies spiel was also held last month, with Team Kim from Korea beating Team Deputan of Chilliwack in the A final. Team Sand beat Team May in an all-Abby B final, while Team Collins beat Team Copeland in the C final.
