Rivermen reel in Heat, win in shootout

The Peoria Rivermen reeled in the Abbotsford Heat for the second time in a week, edging the Heat 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday.

The Peoria Rivermen reeled in the Abbotsford Heat for the second time in a week, edging the Heat 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday afternoon.

The Rivermen also knocked off Abbotsford last Tuesday by an identical score – also in the shootout – and in both games, the Heat held a lead in the third period.

On Sunday, the Heat took a 3-2 lead into the final frame on goals by Adam Estoclet (2) and Greg Nemisz. But at the 2:18 mark, Rivermen forward Phil McRae scored the equalizer.

In the shootout, Peoria went 3-for-4 against Heat goalie Leland Irving, while Estoclet was the lone Abbotsford shooter to solve the Rivermen's Jake Allen.

It was the Heat's third game in three days away from home, and they wrap up a five-game road swing on Wednesday against the Rockford IceHogs.

With the win, the Rivermen (30-24-2-1, 63 points) moved into a tie with Abbotsford (29-21-3-2) for seventh place in the AHL's West Division standings. The Heat do have two games in hand on Peoria.

Estoclet's two-goal outing extended his point streak to six games. Since being acquired from the Grand Rapids Griffins two weeks ago, Estoclet has racked up nine points (three goals, six assists) in seven games.
