Rebels battle for first place

The Valley Rebels beat the top team in the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association on Monday night.

The Valley Rebels beat the top team in the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association on Monday night in Port Moody, as they downed the host Thunder 6-5.

The Thunder have a sterling 8-1-1 record, but the third-place Rebels are right behind them at 7-2 after the win.

They can close the gap further, as the two teams meet again on Friday evening (tonight) at MSA Arena at 8 p.m.

Sean Kelly had a big game for Abbotsford on Monday, with three goals and two assists, giving him five points on six goals. Jordan Hernandez and Brian Poole each had a goal and an assist, while Geordie Wells was the other Rebel scorer.

Lacrosse fans will also have a chance to see the Rebels in action on Saturday night at MSA, as they host the hapless North Shore Indians, who have yet to earn a point in the standings through eight outings.

That game is also at 8 p.m.
