Pitchers power Cards to three weekend wins

The Abbotsford Cardinals won three of four games on the road this past weekend to solidify their grip on fourth place in the BCPBL.

The Abbotsford Cardinals won three of four games on the road this past weekend to solidify their grip on fourth place in the B.C. Premier Baseball League standings.

The Cards (14-8) swept the Parksville Royals by scores of 5-1 and 7-2 on Saturday, and blasted the Nanaimo Pirates 7-1 in the front end of their Sunday doubleheader.

A win in the second game of the day would have moved the Abby club into a second-place tie with the North Shore Twins, but the Pirates prevailed 6-2.

Outstanding pitching performances distinguished the three weekend wins, as Daniel Koo (seven innings, one earned run, eight strikeouts), Emilio Foden (5.1 innings, two earned runs, 11 strikeouts) and Rajin Neger (seven innings, one earned run, five strikeouts) came through in a big way.

The Cards hit the road to face the Coquitlam Reds in a doubleheader on Thursday, and their next home game is Wednesday, June 12 vs. the Vancouver Cannons (7 p.m., DeLair Park).
