Updated with results: Invitational swim meet draws top competitors to Langley

LOSC swimmers posts strong performances at Walnut Grove pool

Over 300 swimmers battled for top honours in Langley on the weekend, when the Langley Olympians Swim Club (LOSC) hosted the 11th Annual Short Course Invitational at the Walnut Grove pool.

Langley Olympians made a strong showing with multiple swimmers placing in the top three and making finals in multiple events.

Bailey Herbert, 15, came in the top three in seven out of her eight final events. She placed first in a total of five events with improved times in two of those events. She placed first in 200m Butterfly with an improved time of 2:19.11s, Womens 400m Individual Medley with an improved time of 4:51.93s, Womens 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2:35.27s, Womens 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:22.25, and the Women 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:13.96. She also placed second in the Womens 50m Freestyle with an improved time of 27:60s and 3rd in the Women’s 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:29.77.

Hugh McNeill, 14, came in the top three in six out of eight of his final events. He placed first in the Men’s 100m Backstroke with an improved time of 1:02.41, Mens 400m Individual Medley with an improved time of 4:48.21, Mens 200m Freestyle with an improved time of 2:03.67s, the Mens 200m butterfly with another improved time of 2:22.53, Mens 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:24.24s, and the Mens 200m Backstroke with a time of 2:14.54.

Joshua Kim, 15, placed in the top three in five of his events. He placed first in the Mens 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2:22.72s, Mens 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:10.44s and the Mens 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:06.52s. He also placed second in the Mens 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:39.17 and third in the Men’s 200m Backstroke with a time of 2:15.87.

Dylan Thomas, 14, placed in the top three in five of his final events this weekend. He placed second in three, including the Men’s 200m Breaststroke with an improved time of 2:43.08, the Men’s 200m Individual Medley with an improved time of 2:29.05, and the Men’s 400m Individual Medley with an improved time of 5:05.68

Josie Field, 15, placed in the top three in four of her events this weekend. She placed first in the women’s 100m Butterfly with a time of 1:04.33s. She placed second in the women’s 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:24:71 as well as the women’s 200m Butterfly with a time of 2:19.19s. Josie also placed thirds in the Womens 400 Individual Medley with a time of 5:05:48s.

Mia Goretic, 14, placed second in the women’s 400m Freestyle in an improved time of 4:38.65s. She also placed third in the in the women’s 400m Individual Medley with an improved of 5:19.95s.

Demetra Sicoli, 16, placed in the top three in two of her final events. She placed second in the Women’s 100m Butterfly with a time of 1:04.36 as well as the Women’s 100m Freestyle with an improved time of 1:01.02.

Luke Stewart-Beinder, 12, placed first in seven events including the Men’s 400m Freestyle with an improved time of 4:44.23, the Men’s 100m Butterfly with an improved time of 1:12.33, the Men’s 400m Individual Medley with an improved time of 5:31.43, the Men’s 200m Freestyle with an improved time of 2:50.07, the Men’s 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:42.54, the Men’s 100m Freestyle with a time of 1:05.70 and the Men’s 200m Butterfly with a time of 2:00.07. He also placed second in the Men’s 50m Freestyle with an improved time of 29.21.

Piyush Kaul , 12, placed first in the Men’s 100m Backstroke with an improved time of 1:12.43 as well as the Men’s 200m Backstroke with a time of 2:37.49. He also placed second in five events including the Men’s 100m Butterfly with an improved time of 1:12.61, Men’s 200m Individual Medley with an improved time of 2:43.09, Men’s 100m Freestlye with an improved time of 1:06.17, Men’s 100m Breaststroke with an improved time of 1:28.52 and the Men’s 200m Butterfly with another improved time of 2:54.26.

Kaitlyn Schroeder, 12, placed first in three events, the Women’s 400m Freestyle with an improved time of 5:03.30, the Women’s 200m Backstroke with an improved time of 2:44.88 and the Women’s 200m Freestyle with a time of 2:24.66. She also placed third in three other events, the Women’s 100m Backstroke with an improved time of 1:18.32, the Women’s 400m Individual Medley with an improved time of 5:56.03, and the Women’s 50 free style with another improved time of 30.88.

Gracie Maryschak, 12, placed in the top three in five of her events. She placed first in the Women’s 200m Breaststroke with an improved time 3:00.79 as well the 400m Individual Medley with a much improved time of 5:39.87. She placed 2nd in the Women’s 400m Freestyle with an improved time of 5:05.53 as well as the Women’s 200m Individual Medley with a time of 2:47.66. She also placed third in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:25.90.

Tyler Friesen, 12, came in the top three in two of his events. He placed first in the Men’s 100m Breaststroke with an improved time of 1:28.52. He also placed third in the Men’s 200m Freestyle with an improved time of 2:26.68.

Madison Belgica, 11, placed second in the Women’s 400M Individual Medley with a much improved time of 5:48.84

Teams from Surrey, Abbotsford and Squamish were among those attending.

The event was sanctioned by Swim BC , a non-profit provincial sport organization (PSO) and the governing body for competitive swimming in British Columbia.

Swim BC members include 61 active age-group clubs, four university programs, five swim associations, two Pacific Sport Regional Training Centers and two Canadian Sport Institute National Training Centers , and over 45 masters clubs.
