Organizers deem inaugural JP74 Sport Abbotsford Combine a success

Combine sees 80 young athletes test their physical skills at a variety of stations

The inaugural JP74 Sport Abbotsford Combine took over the University of the Fraser Valley's Athletic and Recreation Centre on Saturday (Sept. 28), with 80 young athletes of all ages compete in testing events.

The free event welcomed all youth from Grades 6 to 12 and allowed them to showcase their speed, power, agility and strength.

Athletes ran through several training stations to test their abilities in those aforementioned categories. Their performances in the stations can help detail their strengths and provide data on their weaknesses so they can improve.

Abbotsford wrestler Jasmit Phulka – the man behind the JP74 brand – along with The Fitness Lab, the City of Abbotsford, Sport Abbotsford and UFV helped organize the event.

Phulka thanked his event partners and sponsor Save-On-Foods for helping make the event a success. He also thanked Abbotsford mayor Ross Siemens, Surrey Police Service's Staff Sgt. Jag Khosa and Miri Piri Wrestling Club head coach Sucha Mann for working with all the attendees. Phulka hinted that it's likely this will become an annual event.

"We were able to provide high-level athletic testing for the youth and also create a positive community environment," he stated. "I look forward to coming back bigger and better in 2025."
