The Mouat Hawks can cap off a great run at the 4A tournament on Saturday with a win in the third place game.

One measly field goal.

That's all the W.J. Mouat Hawks needed to advance to the BC 4A boys basketball provincial final on Friday night in Langley.

Mouat trailed Tamanawis 82-81 with 7.5 seconds left, and inbounded the ball for the game's final possession. The Hawks got the ball deep, but their shot attempt was swatted away, dashing their provincial title dreams.

The setback ended a tremendous run for the Hawks, who entered the tournament ranked as seventh. The Hawks beat Cowichan 90-83 on Wednesday, and edged Panorama Ridge 67-65 on Thursday to advance to the final four.

Mouat now takes on Walnut Grove today (Saturday) at 6:30 p.m. in the third place game.

Also in the 4A on Saturday, the Yale Lions take on North Surrey at 6:30 p.m. in the 11th place game.

Over in the 3A tournament, it was another heartbreaking exit in the final four for an Abbotsford team.

The Rick Hansen Hurricanes fell 84-82 to Steveston-London on Friday, to fall out of contention for a provincial crown.

The Hurricanes beat Matthew McNair 73-63 on Wednesday, and defeated Lord Byng 62-56 on Thursday to qualify for the final four.

Hansen now takes on St. Thomas More College today (Saturday) at 11:30 a.m. in the third place game.

Also in the 3A, the Abbotsford Senior Panthers battle the Robert Bateman Timberwolves in the seventh place game at 1:15 p.m.

Meanwhile in the 2A tournament, the Abbotsford Christian Knights play St. Thomas Aquinas today at 1:15 p.m. in the seventh place game.
