Gage Goncalves, the Mission-born hockey prospect recently drafted to the NHL, has been invited to Hockey Canada’s World Juniors selection camp.

Starting on Nov. 16, Goncalves will be one of 46 players competing for a spot on the 2021 team, which will try to repeat the success of last year’s gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championship.

Goncalves will be competing with 26 other forwards on the camp’s roster, including other recent NHL draftees such as Ridly Greig, Jakob Pelletier, Connor Zary, Dylan Holloway and Cole Perfetti.

The invite adds to an already exciting year for the 19-year-old player, who was a last minute add to Hockey Canada’s national junior team’s development camp over the summer, and was drafted to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 7.

He was picked in the second round, No. 62 overall, after racking up 33 goals, 38 assists in 60 games in the WHL this year with the Everett Silvertips.
