McWhinney named coach of the year

Ryan McWhinney has been honoured by the Coaches Association of B.C. with a coach of the year award in the recreational/grassroots category.

Ryan McWhinney has been honoured by the Coaches Association of B.C. with a coach of the year award in the recreational/grassroots category.

McWhinney, an Abbotsford native who played football and rugby at UBC and UVic and represented Canada internationally in rugby, is the boys rugby coach and athletic director at W.A. Fraser Middle School. He’s guided the Falcons to five Fraser Valley Grade 8 championships.

He’s also coached with the Abbotsford Rugby Football Club for nine years, managed various regional and provincial rugby teams, and has been involved in coaching and refereeing football, volleyball, basketball, and track.
