The University of the Fraser Valley athletic department is hosting its second annual fundraising breakfast on Sept. 5, and Alex McKechnie is the guest speaker.

McKechnie is the director of sports science with the Toronto Raptors, overseeing all athletic training, rehabilitation, strength and conditioning for the NBA franchise. He previously spent 13 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, and during his tenure, they went to the NBA Finals seven times and won five titles.

A native of Glasgow, Scotland, McKechnie came to Canada in 1974 to be the head physiotherapist to the varsity athletic program at Simon Fraser University. He's also worked extensively in soccer, and was inducted into the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.

The Cascades' first breakfast event in 2012, featuring Canadian women's soccer head coach John Herdman, raised close to $10,000.

This year's fundraiser will be held at the Envision Athletic Centre beginning at 7 a.m. Tickets are $75, or $500 for a table of eight.

Tickets are available online at www.ufv.ca/cascadesbreakfast. For further information, email giving@ufv.ca.
