Locals land jiu-jitsu medals

A trio of athletes from Genesis Martial Arts and Fitness brought home medals from the Pacific Northwest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships.

A trio of athletes from Abbotsford’s Genesis Martial Arts and Fitness brought home medals from the Pacific Northwest Regional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Vancouver, Wash. last weekend.

Jason Gagnon, head coach of the local club, led the way, dominating the brown belt featherweight division en route to a gold medal. Assistant coach Jason Rueck dropped a narrow decision in the blue belt featherweight final and took silver, while Raul Hernandez earned bronze in the white belt heavyweight class.

The championship featured athletes from Washington, Idaho, Oregon and B.C.
