Langley’s Karen Lepine is heading to nationals again.

The defending Canadian women’s masters champion is set to defend her national title after a successful showing at the B.C. masters in Abbotsford, which wrapped up on Sunday.

The Lepine rink, made up of Diane Foster (third), Susan Beuk (second), Donna Christian (lead) and Craig Lepine (coach) posted a record of six wins and one loss in round robin play to enter the playoff round ranked first. Sunday’s final saw the Lepine rink edge the Smiley team from Royal City 6-5 to punch their ticket to nationals.

Made up of Langley and Cloverdale curlers, the Lepine rink became the first-ever B.C. women’s team to win the masters crown at last year’s event in Whitehorse. Lepine also qualified for the nationals masters tournament in 2013.

The men’s side of the event saw the Switzer rink from Richmond defeat the Gelowitz team from Kelowna 8-7 to qualify for nationals.

The Switzer rink, composed of Keith Switzer (skip), Vic Shimizu (third), Ben Nishi (second) and Wayne Saito (lead), picked up five wins and two losses in round robin play to enter the playoff round ranked second overall. They then upset the number-one ranked Gelowitz team to qualify for nationals.

Both the Switzer and Lepine rinks now head to the Canadian Masters tournament in Nova Scotia, which runs from April 4 to 10.
