Heat forward Carter Bancks (34) won this faceoff vs. Utica's Kellan Lain

Something about playing the Abbotsford Heat just seems to agree with Kellan Lain.

The Utica Comets' rookie centre's first-period goal stood up as the game-winner on Friday as the Vancouver Canucks' affiliate blanked the Heat 3-0 at Utica Memorial Auditorium.

Four of Lain's five goals this season have come against Abbotsford – he scored his first two goals as a pro vs. the Heat on Nov. 30, and also tallied in the Comets' 4-2 home win on Wednesday.

Utica goalie Joacim Eriksson earned the shutout, turning aside all 21 shots the Heat sent his way, while Alexandre Grenier (on a first-period power play) and Benn Ferriero (into an empty net) also scored for the Comets.

Joni Ortio took the loss for the Heat, allowing two goals on 22 shots.

The Heat (20-9-2) wrap up their pre-Christmas schedule with a road tilt on Sunday vs. the Hamilton Bulldogs. They return with a two-game home set vs. the Oklahoma City Barons, Dec. 27-28 at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.
