Kruger, Sami to play hockey south of the border

A pair of Abbotsford hockey players have committed to junior teams in the United States.

A pair of local hockey players have committed to junior teams in the United States.

Goalie Brandon Kruger, who suited up for the Yale Secondary U16 team last season, has signed with the Cincinnati (Ohio) Swords of the North American Tier III Hockey League (NA3HL).

“There is lots of great goaltending in B.C. and we are very lucky to have this offer,” Kruger enthused. “Playing this upcoming season in the NA3HL as a 16-year-old goaltender may create some interest for schooling in the future.”

Roman Sami, a forward who posted 11 goals and five assists in 15 regular-season games with the Abbotsford Hawks A1 midget squad in 2013-14, has landed with the Bellingham Blazers of the Northern Pacific Hockey League.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to represent the Blazers and look forward to developing and improving my skill set,” Sami said.

Both the Swords and the Blaze play in leagues which are classified as Tier 3 junior A hockey in the U.S.
