Holly Horwood and Marilyn Forsyth were the big winners at last weekend's Ledgeview Ladies Amateur.

Horwood, who plays out of Vancouver's Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club, took the overall low gross title, posting a two-day score of 145. It was her first Ledgeview Ladies Am victory, and she finished comfortably ahead of a pair of former champs – Phyllis Laschuk of Point Grey (151) and Sandra Turbide of Swan-e-Set (153).

Ledgeview member Forsyth won the overall low net title with a two-day total of 133, edging Valerie Edmondson of Agassiz (137) and fellow Ledgeview golfer Lynda Song (140).

Tournament co-ordinator Grace Rustulka said it's special when a local like Forsyth takes one of the top prizes.

"Knowledge of the course and our greens is always beneficial for local members," Rustulka noted.

"We had 72 ladies in the field, and the weather was exceptional both days. Many people enjoyed it, and we were very pleased with the overall tournament."

The Ladies Amateur also raised just shy of $1,000 for Blessings in a Backpack, an initiative spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Abbotsford through the Abbotsford Food Bank to provide take-home backpacks of food to schoolkids who might otherwise go hungry on weekends.
