High school wrestling provincials come to Abbotsford

The B.C. high school wrestling championships are coming to Abbotsford.

From Thursday to Saturday, the best young grapplers in the province are descending on the Abbotsford Ag-Rec Building to determine provincial champions.

Over 500 wrestlers and teams from all eight zones across the province will be represented at the 51st annual event. Abbotsford’s W.J. Mouat Secondary is the host school, and has qualified 14 wrestlers to compete.

Students from 10 other Abbotsford schools will also be represented at the championships, including: Abbotsford Traditional Secondary, Abbotsford Senior Secondary, Rick Hansen Secondary, Eugene Reimer Middle, Howe Middle, WA Fraser Middle, Yale Secondary, Mission Secondary, Heritage Park Secondary and Dasmesh Punjabi.

The event opens on Thursday with weigh-ins and registrations, and wrestlers hit the mat on Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Placement matches and the championship final run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
