Three athletes from the Hemlock Ski Club, including Abbotsford native Megan Kardoes, qualified for the BC Winter Games last week by virtue of strong performances at a race in Whistler.

Kardoes and teammates Katrina Voss and Lena Liljedahl, both of Port Moody, notched solid finishes in the U14 girls division at a competition which drew 185 athletes from southwestern B.C.

Voss won a silver medal in the giant slalom and added third- and fourth-place results in a pair of slalom races. Kardoes won her first ribbon in the U14 age group with an eighth-place finish in the giant slalom, while Liljedahl’s best finish was 19th in the slalom.

Kelsey Voss (ninth in slalom) and Nick Mitro (11th in giant slalom) also posted solid finishes for the Hemlock squad in the U16/U18 divisions.

The BC Winter Games run Feb. 20-23 in Mission, with Hemlock Resort – located 45 minutes east overlooking Harrison Lake – playing host to the alpine and freestyle skiing events.
