The Abbotsford Heat made a move to bolster their defensive depth on Tuesday, signing blueliner Russ Sinkewich to a player tryout (PTO) contract.
With Brett Carson recalled by the Calgary Flames on Sunday, the Heat were in need of another defenceman, and they have some familiarity with Sinkewich – he suited up for two games with Abbotsford last season.
The 26-year-old native of Westlake, Ohio had been playing with the ECHL’s Alaska Aces. A big presence at 6’4”, 219 pounds, Sinkewich has six points and 34 penalty minutes to go with a +13 rating with the Aces this season.
The Heat host the Hamilton Bulldogs this weekend on Friday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.
