Heat on four-game road trip

The Abbotsford Heat are on the road for a four-game trip, that began last night against the Vancouver Canucks affiliate Manitoba Moose.

A second game against the Moose goes on Sunday at noon.

The Heat then take their drive for a playoff spot through Hamilton for games Tuesday and Wednesday against the Bulldogs, whom they have beaten in three of four meetings this year. The loss came via shootout.

The team will be back in Abbotsford to host Grand Rapids on April 1 and 2.

The Heat have signed three new players. Defenceman Russ Sinkewich has been signed to a professional tryout, while defenceman Josh Van Dyk and centre Justin Dowling have been signed to amateur tryout contracts.

Sinkewich, 25, is from Westlake, Ohio and has played this season with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL.  In 40 games this season, Sinkewich has scored two goals and added six assists for eight points. Sinkewich also has accumulated 46 penalty minutes, and a plus/minus rating of +18.

Van Dyk, 24, is from Woodstock, Ont. and has played the past four seasons at the University of Maine.  This season, he scored three goals and added 15 assists for 18 points in 36 games with 21 penalty minutes.

Dowling, 20, is from Cochrane, Alta. and has played his last four seasons with the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL.  This season he scored 20 goals and 67 points in 63 games.
