Leland Irving was recalled from the Abbotsford Heat by the Calgary Flames on Wednesday morning.
The 23-year-old goalie has established himself as the No. 2 goalie in the organization – Henrik Karlsson serves as Miikka Kiprusoff's backup most of the time, but any time the Flames need a goalie to make a spot start in place of Kiprusoff, Irving is summoned from Abbotsford.
Five of Irving's six starts this season have come in the second game of a back-to-back set, and with the Flames playing road games against the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday and the Edmonton Oilers on Friday, there's a strong chance he'll get the call against the Oilers.
The Swan Hills, Alta. native has a 1-2-3 record in six NHL appearances this season, to go with a .916 save percentage and a 3.22 goals against average.
