Hawks wrestlers soar at Alberni tourney, Hansen to host Upper Valleys

The W.J. Mouat boys wrestling team cleaned up at the prestigious Port Alberni Invitational Tournament on the weekend, winning both the cadet and juvenile boys titles.

Amrit Benning, returning from an injury suffered in early January, led the way for the Hawks. The 2012 national cadet champion dominated Brett Nelson of Campbell River en route to gold in his division and the most outstanding wrestler award.

Mouat's Rahul Narula, Nishan Randhawa, Davinder Gill and Jason Baringh also won gold medals. Silver medallists were Khang  Nguyen, Leon Lokombo, Navrose Brar and Jas  Sidhu, while Mickey Khehira earned a bronze.

Aman Bains added another medal for the Hawks on the girls side of the tournament, winning bronze.

HURRICANES AT HOME FOR UPPER VALLEYS

Rick Hansen Secondary plays host to the Upper Fraser Valley zone wrestling championships on Saturday. The event begins at 9 a.m., and the top five boys and top four girls in each weight class will advance to the provincials, which run March 1-2 in Cowichan.
