Grieve’s OT goal lifts Pilots past Flames in Game 1

The Ridge Meadows Flames pushed the Abbotsford Pilots to the limit in their playoff opener on Tuesday.

The Ridge Meadows Flames pushed the Abbotsford Pilots to the limit in their playoff opener on Tuesday, but the heavily favoured Pilots rallied for a 4-3 overtime victory at MSA Arena.

Kolten Grieve’s goal at 6:47 of the extra frame was the game-winner as Abbotsford took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven Pacific Junior Hockey League first-round series. Game 2 goes Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at Planet Ice in Maple Ridge.

The Flames took a 3-2 lead into the third period on the strength of goals from Danny Wilson, Cameron Alder and Travis Oddy, with Colton Cowden and Brad Parker replying for the Pilots.

It took Abby until the 15:59 mark of the final frame to notch the equalizer, which came off the stick of Austin Edwards, and the hosts completed the comeback in OT.
