The Family Affair Racing Team (FART) is presenting its fourth annual Formula Vee Invitational Race Aug. 3-4 at Mission Raceway Park.

These open-wheel race cars sport 1,200cc Volkswagen Beetle engine. Drivers from as far away as Oregon and California come to compete in this eagerly anticipated event. Former SCCA Formula Vee champion Dennis Andrade from Brush Prairie, WA, has won this race the last two years.

Multi-Formula Vee Champion, Burnaby’s 80-year-old Al Ores, will be competing for top spots, giving his son-in-law, Scott Arthur of Mission, a run for his money. Arthur is also a two-time Formula Vee champion. Also vying for top spots is Pam Williams, a Formula Libra champion, and her mother, Gayle Baird, also of Ladner.

FART was started in 2009 by the Arthurs and Williams’. This is an arrive-and-drive program for racers who don’t want the upkeep of a race car, or who just want to try an open-wheel car.

The team is working with Covenant House, an organization which provides shelter, food, guidance and support for street youth to get them off the streets. Donations will be accepted at the track, and all monies will go directly to Covenant House.

The race is part of the Sports Car Club of B.C.’s Summer Sizzler series. For more information visit or
