The Abbotsford Atom Falcons (ages 7-9) defended an early lead on Saturday to defeat off the North Langley Bears 16-8 in community football action. The Falcons are currently 7-1-1 on the season, and haven’t lost a game since a 14-7 defeat by the Maple Ridge Gold two months ago.

The weather may have been nasty and cold, but the Falcons didn’t take long to heat up. Running back Taejshon Catlin had two touchdown runs for the Falcons in the first half, and Logan Thiessen put up two successful kicks for the extra four points (kicks are worth two points, and conversions one at the Atom level).

“They’re working hard together as a group,” said coach Brent Buchanan. “They’re working for each other.”

Buchanan pointed out Catlin, Thiessen, and defensive stalwart Owen Buchanan as being key to the Falcon victory.

The Abbotsford Falcons have won the last two Valley Community League Football (VCLF) championships at the Atom level.
