UPDATE: Flames take 2-0 lead in jr. B playoff series

Brett Didyk scored three times as the Ridge Meadows Flames took a 2-0 lead in the conference finals Saturday with a 5-3 win over the Pilots in Abbotsford.

Ryley Lanthier, from Halen Cordoni, gave the Flames a 1-0 lead in the first.

Didyk, from Liam Evensong and Ryan Wellborn, made it 2-1 in the second.

He scored again in the third after Abbotsford had tied the game.

Tied 3-3, Didyk, from Evenson and Ian MacDonald, completed the hat-trick.

MacDonald, from Andrew Strelezki, added an insurance marker.

Paul Tucek stopped 24 of 27 shots for the win.

The Flames outshot Abby 28-27 overall and went 1-6 on the powerplay.

The Flames defeated the Abbotsford Pilots 5-1 to open their best-of-seven junior B hockey series at home Friday.

The Flames finished first in the Harold Brittain Conference and have home ice advantage in the series.

As they opened in Maple Ridge, the Flames jumped on the Pilots for three goals in the first 11 minutes of the game.

Strelezki was named the player of the game, as he put up four assists. Logan Hunter scored twice, and both Cordoni and Taylor Seganfreddo had a goal and two assists. Quenton Magnuson also scored for the Flames.

Jacob De Waal scored for the Pilots, while Baylee Wright who led the Pacific Junior Hockey League in scoring this season

The series resumes Wednesday in Maple Ridge, 7:30 p.m.
