Figure skating club adds coaches, preps for ice show

The Abbotsford Skating Club has added two new coaches as they gear up for The Greatest Show on Ice, a circus-inspired ice show.

The Abbotsford Skating Club has added two new coaches as they gear up for their annual ice show.

The local figure skating organization has welcomed Katelyn Melsted and Erica Nixon to the coaching staff. Melsted, who trains with the local club and at the Center of Excellence in Burnaby with the Pacific Ice Syncronized Skating Club, is an accomplished athlete who has passed her Junior Bronze Freeskate, Senior Silver Dances and Gold Skills. As a coach, Melsted has her CanSkate and NCCP Level 1 certifications.

Nixon began her coaching career in 2007 with the Mt. Pearl Skating Club in Newfoundland before moving to Abbotsford. A former skater herself, she has passed her Gold Freeskate, Gold Dance and Gold Skills tests, and as a coach, she is fully Level 1 certified and partially through Level 2.

Melsted and Nixon are helping the local club prepare for The Greatest Show on Ice, a circus-inspired ice show which runs Saturday, April 6 at MSA Arena. Showtimes are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students, and children three and under are free.
