Abbotsford's Gagan Dosanjh is a nominee for the BLG Awards.

Being named a finalist for the BLG Awards is the latest accolade in an already-memorable season for Gagan Dosanjh.

The Abbotsford soccer player is one of eight national nominees – four male, four female – for the awards, which will be handed out on April 29 at the John Bassett Theatre in Toronto.

The BLG Awards recognize the top male and female athletes in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). One female and one male winner will receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship, while all finalists will return home with a commemorative gold ring.

Dosanjh, a third-year striker, earned Canada West men's soccer player of the year honours after leading the conference in goals (12), assists (9) and points (21), and pacing the Thunderbirds men's soccer team to an undefeated regular season (11-0-3).

He also won the MVP award at the CIS nationals in Quebec City last November, leading UBC to the title, and claimed the Bus Phillips Memorial Trophy as UBC's top male athlete.

This marks the second straight year an Abbotsford athlete has been nominated for the BLG Awards – former Trinity Western University volleyball star Ben Ball was a finalist last year.
